Hot Toys!
M.O.P.P. GEAR
Recently I attended a St Louis area show
and was introduced to the fine folks at
Good Stuff to Go. Both Ken and
Gail were very easy to talk to and had a great variety of custom accessories for
the 12 inch collector. From die cast weapons to the future line-up of Blue
Box Toys, I spent a lot of time admiring their items for sale. One of
the neatest thing I saw was the Hot Toys M.O.P.P. set.
Don't let the small size of the box scare you, this set is packed with gear. After my figure was completely decked out, I actually had some of the coolest parts left over!
I was amazed at the accuracy of this set and was really pleased with the $45 price tag. Well worth it for the items you receive.
The uniform is made of a rubberized material and consists of jacket, trousers, gloves and booties. There was also two white strips with Velcro closures included that I think was to show, M-9 detector tape. If that is the case, there should have been another strip. (I was always trained to use three. Also included is a removable M17-A1 gas mask and an entire web belt. (Including two cloth M-16 pouches!)
As a military member by trade, some of the most feared words to a soldier are, "ALARM BLACK. . . M.O.P.P. 4!" This would tell us we had to don the entire chemical ensemble for an unspecified amount of time. Usually, in the heat of summer and always for considerably longer that we all wanted to! In the past there have been several versions of gasmasks available, but never the entire accessorized set. With the lack of an entire chem. ensemble, I always thought there was a void in my military collection.
To give you an idea of the detail, here are the chemical over-boots. These are very close to the old version boots active-duty military personnel still wear. I have them tied per regulation and properly worn with the trouser leg over the top. The brass grommets strengthen the rubber booties and add a nice look. I placed these booties on bare feet. The set does come with a pair of leather soft sided jungle boots with real laces, but I could not see covering them up.
Here is a close-up shot of the hooded M17-A1 mask. This is not a molded on mask like what we have seen in the recent past. This is a removable item that actually stores in the carrier! There are also Velcro straps securing the hood like the real item. Here you will see the only replaced uniform item in the set. I used the 21st Century Toys Kevlar helmet in place of the one the set comes with.
The carrier located on the soldier's left hip. Here you can also see the cloth M-16 ammo pouches. Two were included wit this set, along with a very detailed belt and LBE.
Here are the left over parts! As you can see, there is an A.L.I.C.E. pack the awesome lace up jungle boots, goggles, the original helmet (yuck) and a shotgun and strap.
Over-all, a great bargain for the money! I displayed mine ion a Capt Action figure and I'm completely satisfied with the appearance. This figure has generated a lot of attention in my collection and would be a valuable addition to yours. I would not hesitate in ordering one of these sets!
